Irzum graduated from the University of Strathclyde with a BA in Law and Psychology. After this she studied the accelerated LLB at The University of Glasgow and stayed on to complete the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice in 2014.
During her first year in the accelerated degree, Irzum secured a position volunteering at one of the largest community based Law Centres in Scotland, Govan Law Centre. Irzum was based in the Govanhill office where she gained a real insight into how social welfare law applied in practice and was able to assist many vulnerable clients, particularly those within the BME community.
Irzum then went on to complete her traineeship with Govan Law Centre in 2017. Through the traineeship Irzum became a Justice First Fellow, a scheme established by the Legal Education Foundation to support lawyers committed to public interest and social justice. As part of this fellowship, Irzum developed and implement a project that advanced access to justice for the BME community. She also gained experience in housing, homelessness, discrimination, judicial reviews, employment, guardianships & power of attorneys, benefits and debt, regularly appearing in the Sheriff Court. She has also had experience of appearing at Employment Tribunals and the Housing and Property Chamber.
Irzum joined Latta and Co. in 2019. She is assisting clients with their asylum and immigration matters in addition to being based in the housing department.
