Sponsorship Licence Application Solicitors Glasgow, Scotland

How do I get a sponsor licence for my business?

To make a sponsorship licence application, you need to follow the steps as below:

  • Step 1: Check the eligibility of your business – read our Business Sponsorship Licence guidance
  • Step 2: Choose the type of licence you want to apply for – this will depend on what type of worker you want to sponsor.
  • Step 3: Decide who will manage sponsorship within your business.
  • Step 4: Submit sponsorship licence application online and pay the fee.

How do I apply for a sponsor licence?

You need to apply for your sponsorship licence online and post it to UK Visas and Immigration with the relevant supporting documents. Most applications are dealt with within 8 weeks.

You will need to send at least 4 relevant supporting documents to prove that you are a genuine business and are able to carry out sponsor responsibilities. All of the documents that you provide must be the originals or certified copies. There are exceptions where you don’t need to provide 4 documents if:

  • you are a public body recognised by the UK government
  • you are a company listed on the London Stock Exchange Main Market

UKVI may pay a site visit to your business to check the genuineness and reliability of your business. We can help you in advance of the site visit to ensure that you meet the requirements of the immigration rules. We can also be present with you on the day UKVI visit, to ensure that procedures are correctly followed. For more information about UKVI site visit, please contact us.

What type of licence will I receive?

If your sponsorship licence application is successful, you will get an A-rated licence if your application is granted. This will allow you to start assigning certificates of sponsorship, and your business will thereafter be listed on the register of sponsors.

What is a Certificate of Sponsorship?

You must assign a certificate of sponsorship (electronic record) to each foreign worker that you employ from outside of the EEA. You require to pay for each certificate, and when issued they contain a unique number which a foreign worker can thereafter use to apply for a visa to legally work in the UK. All assigned certificates must be used within 3 months.

All the applications are considered on the ‘allocation date’, which is the first working day after the 10th day of the month. Under some circumstances, your applications may also be held until the next month’s allocation date.
